Elections in Scotland
Scottish Local Government Elections are a matter devolved to the Scottish Parliament under the Scotland Act 1998. The Scottish Government and Ministers are responsible for setting the rules for the conduct of local government elections. Local authorities themselves are responsible for organising and conducting these elections in their own areas.
Elections to the Scottish, UK and European Parliaments are matters reserved to the UK Government and are currently the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Scotland. Further information can be found on the Scotland Office website.
